Great Music
So you think Oktoberfest is all polkas and
oom-pah?
Did you know that music played at many oktoberfest events in North
America can include all sorts of popular music - depending on the
event and the audience?
Did you know that in 2008, Alice Cooper performed a concert during
the middle of Oktoberfest in Kitchener-Waterloo?
Did you know that
Finger Eleven and Sam Roberts have both happily shared top Billing
with Polka legend Walter Ostanek.
Did you know that the 2008 Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest featured a
special event for marching bands and pipe bands?
The Toronto Fire
Fighter's Pipe Band was one of the huge hits along side The Black
Forest Band at the big tent at Concordia Club. Also did you know
that the songs of Bands like Great Big Sea can occasionally be heard
in the beer tent at Concordia House during the Oktoberfest?
Songs from all generations make their way into the music of any great
party. It is no different with an Oktoberfest. Especially here in the party capital of Canada!
Here in Newfoundland, we have an amazing heritage of musicians who can
entertain with the best of them. Be it a Rock ballad or
house-shaker. A traditional Jig or a new song with traditional
elements. A step-dance, a blues heart-wrencher, a torch song or a
drinking song. Jazz, Country, our own special music. We loved
SKA when it was new. Reggae holds many hearts here. We are a
province with our own National anthem...and we love it dearly.
It would be a shame to put on a great party and NOT invite everyone, so it
is hoped that despite having an Oktoberfest beer-garden at it's
core, we will also be able to have shows or venues where a variety
of styles can share the same stage on the same day. Every new act on
stage bringing a new crowd pleaser to dance to or sing along with!
Isn't that a party you want to attend?
Small clubs can join in the festival as well, no matter who is on stage,
we'll try to make it easy for anybody to proudly say that they were
part of the biggest party Newfoundland has seen.
A few decorations, a costume or a banner...perhaps just a special on the
festival nights. We'll be thrilled to see every business in the
entertainment district welcoming people with an official sign or
banner....if not as a festhall, then as a participant!
More live music in more places that weekend! An entire city dancing
and singing and making new friends! Inviting people from across Canada, The USA, Europe and the world! That what we hope to achieve!

Newfoundland is well known across Canada for our traditional Celtic music
scene, but also has a very healthy rock, country, alternative scene.
If you know of a style of music, there is likely a place to hear it
in the St. John's region.
