The Festhall Model - A Festival for
Everyone!
If we can get the event established, then it can grow organically
year to year. With the "Festhall Model" - any group can join the
party and be sanctioned as an official Oktoberfest Venue, whenever
they are ready to meet the standards set for safety and quality.
Even small clubs on George Street could participate - all they
need do is offer live music, one or more of the featured beverages
at a special price, and provide either live or recorded music that
fits into the theme of the festival. Participating clubs would be
awarded an Oktoberfest banner to fly during the festival. If they
can offer food, or a dance floor, or costumed ambassadors - so much
the better!
For "Year One" though, the plan is to have one or two central
venues with a 2 day festival. Preferably a place large enough to
hold 500 or more people and with daytime and evening sessions. The
venues should be able to provide space for food vendors and/or
kitchen facilities so that patrons could be offered food both
Bavarian and local varieties.
Ideally, we could have a featured headline band each night of the
festival, possibly two or three per night of different musical
styles.
This sort of festival has the huge advantage of being able to
host events in different locations. An event at MUN, two or three
downtown, another in Mt. Pearl...it could all be easily done to fit
into the Oktoberfest on the Rock theme.
