Great Friends
Newfoundlanders and Labradorians love our home! We love to
play host, be a tour guide, to entertain, to share a joke, to see
our visitors become our friends, and once we've taken you into our
hearts and homes, we know that it will always be a home to you too!
The Oktoberfest on the Rock will be a great reason for people to
visit us in the Fall of the year. A time when we don't have the
icebergs, the whales, the nesting seabirds, the races or the other
great festivals to entertain and amaze our friends from away. The
weather in September is some of our sunniest weather of the year,
sure the evenings have a chill, but that's why we love to get
together in big groups and enjoy the things that make for a great
party! Good food, good drink, good music and great friends!
Our festival would be timed so as to occur before the large
Oktoberfest in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, and we would be thrilled
to welcome long-time Oktoberfest fans and musicians from around the
globe to our own event.
In Canada and the US, smaller Oktoberfests and similar parties
welcome those who like to keep the party going or just don't get
enough Oktoberfest at the main festivals. If you've even
been to the Oktoberfest in Kitchener-Waterloo, or Munich, you
probably love the way it helps the hosts put on a warm welcome that
can't be beat.
Much of Eastern North America either has only short or small scale
Oktoberfests, or they have no oktoberfest at all. An Oktoberfest on
the Rock, would be unique and a great attraction for those planning
a Fall vacation, or just a long week-end get-away. For College
students in the Maritimes or Quebec, or even Ontario, A week-end
trip early in the Fall semester is going to be much easier to do
than a trip that comes in the second half of the semester. Our
region stands to see this festival becoming a major destination, for
people looking to be entertained. People who might decide to plan a
longer trip next Summer, or years down the road with their families.
Students become the business leaders of tomorrow, and fond memories
of Newfoundland could help us later to entice all sorts of
professionals or their conferences. Get to know us and you'll
love us!

The People's Oktoberfest?
Oktoberfest is in essence, one very large German themed kitchen
party - something that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians do very well
in their own way. This event is a natural for St. John's, a city
that is growing not just in size, but in also cosmopolitan nature.
The original Oktoberfest was a royal wedding celebration in
Bavaria, a party for the people. That's one reason why we'd like the
festival in St. John's to be known as the People's Oktoberfest.
